The Cartierheide owes its name to the formar owner, Baron Emile de Cartier de Marchienne. The Baron used the moorland for hunting, protecting the area from clearing. Here you can endlessly enjoy the silence, variation in landscape and the various special animal species such as the smooth snake, blue-winged grasshopper, small mother-of-pearl butterfly, viviparous lizard, pinniped salamander, tree falcon and black woodpecker. Cartierheide is not only perfect for walking and hiking, you will also find many cycling, mountain biking and horse riding tracks.
